Occasional Table Set
from Palais Royale Collection

Palais Royale is warmly inspired by the beautiful Palais-Royal palace and garden located near the Ier arrondissement of Paris. It faces the Place du Palais-Royal, a square which was much enlarged by Baron Haussmann after the Rue de Rivoli was built for Napoleon. Palais-Royal was once the Paris seat of the Dukes of Orleans and the cadet branch of the ruling House of Bourbon, beginning with Louis XIV's brother, Philippe. The Rococo style of this Palais Royal Collection takes pleasure in asymmetry, or 'contraste' - the practice of leaving elements unbalanced for effect. Accent carvings and details are seamlessly integrated into a flow of opposed c-scrolls and 'rocaille.' 'Contraste' was a Rococo innovation. 18th century Rococo styled rooms were designed as total works of art with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, ornamental mirrors, and tapestry. Its lighthearted themes and intricate designs elevated Rococo to a major period in the development of European art in Paris, London, Turin, Venice, Naples and Sicily. Fine Rococo style furniture also rose to a pre-eminence as the French upper classes sought to outfit their spacious Parisian boulevard homes in the fashionable style. In England, Thomas Chippendale transformed English furniture design through his adaptation and refinement of the Rococo style, although the most successful exponent of English Rococo was probably Thomas Johnson, a gifted carver and furniture designer working in London. The Palais Royale Collection is a treasure in the Michael Amini Signature Series by AICO and exudes highly distinctive features. Beautifully crafted from Birch Solids & Cherry, Walnut Primavera, Elm burl and Maple, the Rich Rococo Cognac finish radiates a wonderful statement about your good taste in fine furniture. The Palais Royale Collection is fabulous furniture by any world standards. In a very creative expression of the Rococo innovation 'contraste', this Rectangular Dining Table features a center pedestal base and two legs positioned diagonally at opposite corners. This exceptional and very distinctive table also features three extension leaves. With all three leaves in place the table top extends to an expansive 144" and will accommodate larger dinner parties and family gatherings with ease.
